If It Must End, Then Let It (Impressions Composing Jam: OST #2 submission)

I’m just going to copy what I put in the YouTube description

I took the route of trying to piece together each photo from the jam into one song. I took an old noodle I made once called “ifitmustend” and felt inspired to try and continue on with it. So this is both the next chapter of “thenletit” and also an attempt to (loosely) create music based on a theme and paintings. It was fun.

Ai was not used in the creation, writing, recording, mixing, panning, mastering, exporting or any other semantical process related to the program(s) I used during the creation of this song.

I used FL Studio for this. The main VSTs and other crap used are:

Mesa Boogie Mk II by Neural DSP

FLEX (built-in)

Focusrite Red Suite EQ

Focusrite Compressor

And just a few built-in things for mixing, compression and whatnot.

You don’t have to read past here. I just want to yap about how I went about this and give final thoughts on it for a moment.

I wanted to try and make a piece that only used one guitar for everything. So I turned one side of the stereo mix to 1/4 on the delay, and the other side to 1/4T (while also having a reverb and other things attached to it) and it created an interesting effect that I liked a lot. I’d already been playing with this idea here and there with time signatures and delays every once in a while.

To be honest, I hate that I can’t find a tangible way to enjoy drums in this song. I fought with it for so long and just never found something that told me it was necessary. The bass, though. It’s not the greatest by any means— but it served its purpose on here.

Overall, the song turned out to be a lot of fun to write, record and mix. Mixing is still something I’m learning constantly with every song I write and record. This jam was a good refresher. I hope to keep trying more in the future.
